From 1975 to 1981: carbureted Ferrari 308 versions (fiberglass and steel)

Chassis numbers between 18317 and 21289 for fiberglass bodies. Chassis numbers between 20161 and 35509 for steel body (all markets and versions included).

1- Engines:

Europe: V8 90°, 178.61 cu/in, 4 camshafts derived from the 308 GT4 engine. (F106A type 021: 255 bhp at 6 600 rpm (SAE), torque 209.76 ft/lbs at 5 000 rpm). Compression ratio 8.8:1, bore 81mm, stroke 71mm. four Weber carburetors 40 DCNF. Dry sump lubrication, one distributor and single exhaust pipe (only one left rounded cutout at left in the rear apron).

U.S.A., Japan, Australia: wet sump (F106A: 240 bhp at 6 600 rpm (SAE), torque 195.21 ft/lbs at 5 000 rpm), two distributors and four exhaust pipes (only one large cut-off in the lower part of the rear apron). Air pump device with a charcoal cannister. In general, these power figures must be considered with great caution since data have varied along time.

2- Interiors:

Imitation leather (leatherette), except door panels and seats which are in leather; the seats have 3 black stripes in imitation leather. Clock and oil temperature gauge on the left of the Momo steering wheel. Brico Pram cigarette lighter. One Vitaloni Californian rear view mirror on the driver's side. Radio pre-equipment: wiring, antenna and speakers on all models.

3- Options:

Factory options: - Air conditioning. - Boxer paint scheme. - Metallic paint. - Vitaloni Californian mirror on the passenger side. - Large front spoiler available during 1978, from chassis 23611 («Millechiodi»).

- Front and rear foglights. Mounting brackets welded to the bumper brackets change over time. At the front, they only serve to enable flashing facility without opening the headlights. - Rear left fog light is factory-fitted to all cars delivered new in Belgium from 1976, and on both sides for all U.K. delivered cars from April 1980 onwards.

- «Sprint pack» including P6 cams, 42 DCNF Weber carburetors, Borgo HC pistons, matt black cam cover, four exhaust pipes, stamped Ferrari. - 16" Speedline wheels fitted with Pirelli P7.

- 7" 1/2 wide wheels. - Heated rear window (standard on U.S. version).

- From 1980, leather dashboard an console option, matching or not the upholstery colour.

Dealer options: The brand and model of the radio head unit depend on the import market. It is installed by the dealer so we have Becker in Germany, Spain or Australia with the «Mexico» model in 1976. Then the Blaupunkt Essen ARI in Germany and the Blaupunkt Bamberg CR or electronic for other market cars. Panasonic roof console with equalizer and auto radio are also upon request on early «vetroresina» models. The Blaupunkt Berlin was also optionnal with the head control system coupled to a microphone.

During 1977, dealer installed the Blaupunkt CR-4096, then in 1978 the Blaupunkt CR-2001 which changed slightly specification in 1979.

At the beginning of 1977, the «Hollywood Sports Cars» dealer proposed, in agreement with the Ferrari SpA factory, the Schedoni leather interior. 19 cars were sold: 24835 - 24917 (the only known GTB) - 26037 - 26079 - 27719 - 27761 - 28363 - 28371 - 28507 - 29043 - 29215 - 29307 - 29693 - 29767 - 30101 - 30117 - 30581 - 30619 - 33029.

4- Differences between export standards:

- Indicators/front position lights white until mid 1977 (except white/orange for German cars from the beginning and orange lights for U.S. cars) then white/orange on all cars except U.S. cars all orange.

- Rear all orange Siem turning lights on carbureted European cars, reversing lights in the bumper. On U.S. and European steel cars, reverse lights included in the center of the Carello indicator light. - On all U.S. cars, more prominent bumpers with integrated shock absorbers and a different shape front grille, body panels reinforcements, lower rear apron (or «diaper»), four exhaust pipes, specific front compartment layout (specific standards on impact full size spare wheel unlike European cars). Large rectangular repeaters position lights on front fenders (larger than on European cars) and rectangular side marker lights on the rear fender. Rearview mirror set back from the position of the European model. Speedometer in MpH calibrated up to 180. «Seat Belt» indicator on dashboard, large hand brake and starter lights. U.S. models have a strap in the trunk to hold the jack bag and tool kit, first at the rear of the left wheel and then behind the licence plate.

- On U.K. models, the seat belt receiver is different.

- On Australian RHD models, speedometer in kilometer, U.S. tachometer and temperatures in Fahrenheit. European bumpers and traffic lights, some early models were delivered with Cromodora Astro III. rear view mirror.

- For all the Right Hand Drive cars, the telescopic jack for the hood is mounted on the right side of the car. In March 1978, the standard shape of the steering wheel changed to that of the GT4.

- On Japanese models, there is a lighter instead of the cigarette lighter, the fan button is also different and there is a parking light switch between the rear defroster and the handbrake. The speedometer is red beyond the allowable speed limit. The Japanese legislation obliges to have a marking of standard on wheels.

- On German models, rear engine cover vents flush to the sheet metal and lateral scoops in the doors body fitted with grids.

5- Factory Modifications (part 1 until October 1977):

1976: - Change of the oil tank's shape on dry sump cars, early 1976.

- Radio antenna embedded in the windscreen glass deleted at the end of 1976’s first quarter.

- Change of the seat belt receivers during April, 1976.

- Change of the symbol of the air conditioning on the Borletti plate in May of 1976.

- No more BB style holes perforated into the right side of the rear deck second part of 1976.

- Deletion of the flexible pocket at the back of the seats in May, 1976.

- From June, 1976 to June, 1977, a steel antenna switch replaces the one whose button is black like the other switches on the console.

- On the upper part of the body, on the scuttle under the windshield, the rivets disappear and four screw now appear, just like on the other part of the front trunk surround in the 2nd quarter on year 1976. Windshield washer nozzles are now recessed, during summer 1976 except U.S. and Australian models which have them always recessed.

- Change of the radiator grille anchoring points mid 1976.

- Deletion of the oil pressure by-pass and the «Y-pipe» connected to the oil tank in June, 1976.

- Change in the fuse cover mounting with the deletion of the quarter turn fasteners, and replaced by a Tenax button to the driver and a «U» slide at the end of the fuse cover around October, 1976.

- The «Disegno di Pininfarina» badge affixed on the right side behind the door changed position from the right to the left side between the door and the wheel arch on the bottom of the waistline. Cars left the factory with a single badge on one side only, right, then left. - Deletion of the flap over the brake fluid reservoir and front spare wheel housing now with a straight edge in October, 1976.

- Bodies change from fiberglass to steel for the body panels, first for the U.S. version (in October 1976) then for European cars (in March 1977), many changes in details have taken place then (noted with ***): *** Rear engine hood fastener change from cable unlocking (on fiberglass car) to a threaded attachment on the hub.

*** No delimitation between roof and pillar panels on steel cars and change of the roof drip molding.

*** Change of the rear side windows vertical profile framing: new vertical flexible seal.

*** Change from single bulb Siem brake light to double bulb Carello light.

*** On all European models, the bumper reverse lights and Siem orange flashing lights are replaced by a Carello light with the reverse light in its center, already mounted on U.S. models.

*** A rectangular stamped recess for the license plate, akin to the existing recess on U.S. cars, which was square on polyester bodies, appears on euro cars.

*** Different hinge for the gasoline access panel, and different lower rod under the glass and the hatch (in two parts on polyesters and a single part on steels).

*** Change in the position and in the lamp holder for the door opening control light.

*** Addition of one more hinge and modification to the door switch mounting and fitting of a small cover with the name «Dino» on the movable part of the door (2 covers for left hand drive driver door, same as U.S. version).

*** On the U.S. market model, there are two door switches on the driver’s side, one for the courtesy and for the door side-lamps, the other one for the safety belt warning.

*** Change of the quarter window front seal type, to one with a rubber rotating joint.

*** U.S. version now have a rear muffler guard.

*** On the U.S. version, change of the front hood anchoring from single central hook (European version) to twin hooks on both sides of the zipper canvas and transverse mid-height reinforcement of front hood. Also at that time on this version, the spare wheel is now fixed with a bolt and thus, a modification of the shape of the battery cover which becomes notch. Previously, on the cars delivered with a normal size spare wheel, it was not attached contrary to the versions delivered with the slim one which they, were fixed with a strap on a metal support.

- A bleed screw appears on the calorstat housing in April, 1977.

- The rainshield protecting the distributor, previously bolted under the engine hood, is now bolted onto the engine compartment rear panel in May, 1977. For U.S. version, the change is earlier, in November 1976,that rainshield stayed bolted under the engine hood, but it changed to a different shape.

- On U.S.A. models, the spare wheel fixing nut knob becomes bakelite in September 1977.

6- The spider 308 GTS:

GTS variant released (in September 1977 at the Frankfurt auto show) with F106A 020 type, a wet sump engine, one distributor. Interior with a different console and door trim. The doorstep is higher due to body reinforcements, it is covered with an aluminum step plate. Black side grids covering the rear quarter windows with unpainted silver edge, those grills can be opened for window cleaning and filling the tanks at the left.

7- Factory Modifications (part 2 from October 1977):

1977 : - The GTS version sees the appearance of a new spoiler with three elongated holes under the radiator grill for the cooling. This spoiler now equips all GTB and GTS versions whatever the market.

- Change from the monobloc fiberglass spare wheel shell housing with a zipped canvas to an open fiberglass molding in two parts, first on the U.S. GTB version in October, 1977, then on European GTB version in December, 1977. The latter thus sees the adoption of the holding bolt of the spare wheel as the U.S. version as a replacement of the attachment by the strap. The fixing nut, previously fixed on US cars, becomes movable on all cars. All GTS versions have the fiberglass molding. As the same time, change from the windscreen washer soft pocket to an Isola SpA plastic bottle.

- Change of the oil pressure gauge with the addition of a warning light for total loss of pressure (the sensor is situated on the back of oil filter symmetrically to the pressure measuring sensor), in October, 1977.

- On European models, a «snail» air horn replaces the two-trumpets FIAMM horn in October, 1977. On U.S. models, the two trumpets are on the right side of the coolant radiator during the whole production range, with the compressor in front of the spare wheel housing.

- A headlight engine waterproof cover appears in November, 1977.

- Change of the odometer digits from small to large size in the first quarter of 1977 (in July 1976 for the U.S. version), then font lettering changes from double bar to single thick bar with different symbols for low beam, high beam and parking brake on the Euro version in July 1978 (in March 1978 for the U.S. version).

- Change of the headlight front cover (3 steps: until May, 1976, then second change in April, 1979 and the third phase was to end the 328 version).

- The chrome rim around the horn button disappears.

- A seal appears around door opening lever's recess. The GTB and GTS versions have different rubber buffer supports.

- A small pocket for small items appears on the front of the center console in front of the gear change grid in December, 1977. All GTS versions have this pocket.

- In December, 1977, catalytic device on the U.S. version with «Slow Down» lights on each side of the steering rack, one for each cylinder bank. Change of the carburetors and cams size to reduce emissions (engine 205 bhp (SAE)). The trunk of these cars is shallower due to the fitting of the catalysators, back engine with an «u» shaped cooling vent assembly with rain cover attached to the hood. Change of the rear apron («diaper») with now two louvers on each side.

- On U.S. models, deletion of the carpet located under the engine lid above the trunk with the appearance of the catalysts. On European models, carpets disappear when the factory starts manufacturing the U.S. injection 2v version (then there is an overlap in the production of two different versions for 6 months).

1978: - New mounting of the rear view window glass in January 1978 for the GTB version, for which, until that date, the glass was glued with a metal profile covered its surrounding edge, but from that date onwards adopts the same rubber seal system than the GTS. The appearance of this seal also changes the vertical trim of the headliner in three parts.

- Change of the instruments display at the left of the steering wheel (in 3 steps, from the beginning of the production to summer 1978, then new change at the very end of 1978 to the end of the carbureted versions production, except for RHD versions who remained with the second version of the console).

- Change of the GTS rear quarter windows grids from aluminium to plastic in February 1978.

- Changed rear cover tabs from open to U-shaped in May, 1978.

- A rubber seal is mounted around the door's strike plate in May, 1978.

- The fuse cover securing have now a second Tenax button at the end to the door in June, 1978.

- The profil of the bottom seal of the doors change in August 1978.

- On the GTS model, the plate of the front hood lever is covered carpet in October 1978.

- Change from a mixed metal-plastic fuel tank cap to a plastic one in November 1978.

- Electronic ignition from chassis 23561 GTB and 23265 GTS.

1979: - Change of the engine cover supporting rod from single-rod to two struts, one each side with brackets on the body, this from chassis 27583 GTB and 27309 GTS.

- Change of fog lights front tabs early 1979 (previously hidden next to the bumper support).

- A rubber seal is mounted around the external door’s barrel lock shroud in March 1979.

- Different design of cut-out of the center console bearing the various levers in December, 1978 for the U.S. cars, then in March 1979 for the European version.

- A lighter replaces the cigarette lighter in May, 1979.

- On the U.S. version, change of the speedo displaying dual MpH/KmH up to 85 MPH in September 1979.

- Change of the lower end gaskets for the glass window on doors mid 1979: the GTB version adopts the same joint profile as the GTS.

1980: - Metric Michelin TRX wheels fitted as standard by the factory in the middle of 1980. - Aluminum Nardi steering wheel with new horn button in March 1980.

8- Paint scheme:

- The paint scheme changes in March 1978 on the following details: the scuttle below the windshield and all around the gutter cover and the underbody framing the muffler become black satin.
